Disney Cruise Line
We are longtime Disney Cruise Line cruisers having taken 15 so far.
I don’t have experience on other cruise lines, but from talking with Disney passengers that have taken other cruise lines, they say nothing compares to Disney.

Disney has a reputation for quality in everything they do, and Disney Cruise Line is no exception. I’ll start with some general ship and accommodation information. Facts and figures may be boring, but I am a geek and was impressed with them 🙂
The Disney Ships
Disney has 4 ships. The Disney Magic started sailing in 1998 and her sister ship, Disney Wonder in 1999. Both ships have 875 staterooms and can accommodate 2700 passengers. In 2011 Disney launched Disney Dream. Then in 2012 the Disney Dream’s sister, the Disney Fantasy had its first sailing. The Dream and Fantasy have 1250 staterooms and can carry 4000 passengers! And another cool thing is there is usually one crew member for every 3 passengers.
Although the sister ships have the same number of staterooms, there are some configurations that are different between them. They have different themes and restaurants. Disney ships were designed for families – but there are also adult only areas. We have sailed many times with no kids along.
Rotational Dining
Disney Cruise Line is unique in the way dining works. It is called rotational dining. Each ship has three main dining rooms. Dinner is served in each of the restaurants at two scheduled dining times. You pick early or late dining and are assigned a table number. Depending on the size of your family you may be seated with other passengers. We have made several longtime friends from our table mates.
Each night you rotate through the dining rooms, sitting at the same table number in each one. Your servers and table mates go to each dining room with you 🙂 After a day or so the serving staff will know what you like to drink and other preferences.
Tip – if you are traveling without children or with older children, the late dinner seating will have a lot fewer children and will be a little less hectic. Also, if you have a port day excursion, the later seating gives you more time to prepare for dinner.
Other Dining
There are also other dining options such as à la carte or upscale adult only restaurants. The food and service are top-notch. Plus, if you pick something for dinner that you don’t like, your server will bring you something else. It makes a great opportunity to try new foods. All dining is included in your cruise fare except for the adult only restaurants, alcohol, or specialty drinks. Also, room service is included, except for the tip. When our daughter was young, we made a big deal of ordering room service food at midnight.
By the way – this is NO time to diet 🙂
Disney is a customer service company that happens to own 4 cruise ships. #cruise #Disney #DisneyCruise #CruiseShips #JanetBPearson Share on XI have so much to talk about but will save some for later. I hope you have enjoyed learning a little about the DCL ships. If you are also a Disney cruiser, send me your experiences.
