Unintentional Decluttering
Decluttering is all the rage right now
It gives you a sense of accomplishment to do a bit of spring cleaning by decluttering your home.
Well – we had some unplanned decluttering… In January we went on a 10-day vacation where no one was in our home during that time. Because of some faulty builder plumbing, the connection to the toilet water supply in our master bath came loose.
Sometime during that 10 days, water started flooding the house – master bath, closet, bedroom, hall closet, half bath, and unfinished basement below the bedroom. We also had a $583 water bill! Thankfully insurance covered most everything over our deductible. For over 2 months we lived in our upstairs bedroom and a local hotel while reconstruction was done.

So, we lived like an episode of Hoarders – we had boxes and furniture in the dining room, kitchen and garage. We made a decision to go through everything before moving it back to the rebuilt rooms – starting with a clean slate!
The process is still going on – we are moving things back to the affected rooms but taking our time and purging things as we go. We have several boxes of garbage and even more boxes of items to donate.
Our master closet looks great! It is organized and tidy.
I suppose a couple good things came out of our flooding mess – we needed new bedroom carpet anyway, and we got rid of a lot of things we didn’t need anyway!

Oh my goodness, Janet! I am so sorry y’all went through that! I’ve not experiencing a flood, but have been through fire/oil explosion from a boiler malfunctioning.
I love how this very bad news turned into such a blessing though. What a beautiful reminder to flip the negative into a positive and how God works all things out for our good! Wow.
Decluttering is a magical experience, isn’t it? 😀 Something about the whole process just frees our souls somehow. Every time I just start going through stuff – donating or tossing – it feels amazing. You literally feel lighter.
Thanking God you are all ok, survived the chaos and are now enjoying the newly remodeled space. 😊

Holly,
Thank you for the comment! It was a mess for a while, but a great opportunity to declutter! It is amazing how good it feels to clear out unneeded things. It even put me in the mood to work on areas not even affected by the flooding!
Have a Blessed day!
Janet
