Disney Alaskan Cruise
A Disney Alaskan cruise will offer you a host of outdoor adventures and plenty of picturesque scenery. DCL offers several Alaskan itineraries from 5 days to 9 days. The cruise we took was a 7-day cruise. We live in the southeast, so considering the long flight and cost to Vancouver, we stay as long as we can. I would love to take the 9-day cruise, but I just don’t have enough vacation. 🙁 Note: DCL offers a couple of 7-day itineraries, but I am talking about the one we have taken.

Disney 7 Day Cruise
A Disney Alaskan cruise will not only take you to spectacular cities and glaciers, but you also go in Disney-style! The ship is luxurious and provides first-class service and Broadway class entertainment. It’s family-friendly and also caters to adults.
This 7-day cruise starts in Vancouver and followed by a day at sea. The next day is spent navigating the approximately 30 mile Tracy Arm Fjord. (A fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by a glacier.) Along the way, you will see so many different wildlife such as bald eagles, brown bears, goats seals, and whales. At the end of the fjord, you will experience the magnificent Sawyer Glaciers, composed of the North Sawyer and South Sawyer glaciers.

This is what the glacier looks like –
While traveling the fjord, bundle up and stay on the top deck. You will get views of both sides of the fjord.

The Disney staff will have hot chocolate and cookies and an on-deck BBQ. Disney characters will stop by for pictures, so be prepared. At the end of the fjord, the Captain will turn the ship around to head out. If you missed some of the exquisite scenery going to the glacier, you have another chance.
Sailing Disney Wonder in Alaska with a “special friend”
Alaskan Summertime
We sailed the week of July 4 which is one of the best weather times for Alaskan cruises. The price of an Alaskan cruise may vary depending on the sail date. Alaskan cruises usually operate from mid-May through mid-September.
Prices will usually be higher in June, July, and August. During those middle months, the temperature is usually high at 65 degrees and low 50’s. These are published averages and we found some days to be warmer. It is not uncommon to have some rain, so a lightweight poncho or raincoat can come in handy.
Some people will disagree with me, but I don’t think to pay the extra money for a balcony stateroom is necessary for the Alaskan cruise. You spend very little time in your stateroom anyway and the ship has several decks for viewing – covered and uncovered. This is just my personal preference, but I would rather spend the money on an excursion. 🙂
I hope this makes you want to take an Alaskan cruise! Note – I do NOT get anything for promoting DCL. We are just huge Disney fans and I love to talk about it. 🙂
I give you a little information about the Disney ships here.
We are longtime Disney cruisers, having taken 15 cruises so far. We have sailed on each of the 4 Disney ships and have been to Alaska, Western Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean, Bahamas, Southern Caribbean, Canadian Coastline, and a special Mexican Mayan itinerary. If you have any questions, please contact me. I love to talk about Disney cruising!
