Disney Castaway Cay
Most Disney Cruise Line Caribbean and Bahamian cruises have a stop at Disney’s private island – Castaway Cay (pronounced key) in the Bahamas. The Disney ships can dock at the island, allowing cruisers to walk off the ship directly onto the island. There are some must have things you need to take to Castaway Cay.

Castaway Cay is a simply beautiful island! Disney employees live and work on the island to keep it clean and ready every day. Don’t stay on the ship, your day at Castaway Cay may be your favorite one of the cruise 🙂

Here’s a list of things you need to take to the beach with you.
-
Your Key To The World
You need your room key to get off and back on the ship. Also, the only place you can use cash is at the island post office. The gift shops and bars only use your key to the world,
-
Sunglasses
This is a must-have item for the beach. Remember to have sunglasses for everyone in your family. I am terrible at losing sunglasses, so I take a spare.
-
Lip Protector
Your lips are very sensitive to the sun and wind. Be prepared with lip balm.
-
Beach bag
It’s a good idea to have a mesh beach bag to carry your things to and from the beach. A mesh bag works best because it lets sand fall through. In my bag, I usually have sunscreen (to reapply), lip balm, my phone, my camera, baby powder, and a water bottle.
-
Watch or Phone
I don’t think there are any clocks around the island and it’s good to keep up with the time, especially for lunch and all aboard.
-
Baby Powder
Take baby powder to help remove sand. Baby powder strips the moisture from your skin, which makes sand easier to remove.
-
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a necessity. Apply before heading to the beach, it is a pretty good walk from the ship to the beach and you could sunburn easily before ever getting to the water. Put it in your beach bag and reapply as necessary.
-
Snorkel Gear
I personally don’t snorkel, but if you do and have room to pack your own gear, bring it along. If not you can rent equipment on the island.
-
Sandals or Flip Flops
Flip Flops are good because you can shake off the sand or wash them. Sandals will also work fine.
-
Water Bottle
You need to drink lots of water while on the island! It’s can be very hot so you must stay hydrated. There are cold water stations around the island to get refills.
I hope this list helps you plan for your Castaway Cay day on your Disney cruise.
